Let’s Talk about Addresses

It is very important to type the address carefully. It doesn’t work and is very frustrating if you type the address wrong.

How do I say an E-mail address?

We say:
@ —–> at
.  —–> dot
_ —–>underscore
For example:          We say:
info@hilc.ns.ca —–>info at HILC dot n s dot c a
Halifax@ns.sympatico.ca —–>Halifax at n s dot sympatico dot c a
S_smith@hotmail.com —–>s underscore smith at hotmail dot com

How do I say an Internet address?

We say:
: —–>colon
/ —–>slash
. —–>dot
– —–>dash
For example:    We say:
http://www.cic.gc.ca —–>h t t p colon slash slash w w w dot c i c dot g c dot c a
http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca —–>h t t p colon slash slash w w w dot region dot Halifax dot n s dot c a
